Amy's Tutorial for Transparency

Transparency Tutorial

(Paint Shop Pro 7 Version)

It is important to remember that before you begin your graphic to rename the first layer "background" and turn it off (this can be done by clicking on the glasses to put a red x over them).

Add a new layer for the first part of your doll (ie. the head). Add a new layer for each new part of your doll (ie one layer for the head, another layer for the body, another for the legs, etc.).

When you have fully assembled your doll, go to layers->merge all visible.

Now, go to your background layer and click on the glasses again to make the background layer visible.

Make sure the background layer is selected and click on your background color on the color palette (on the right side of your screen). Make the background a weird color that isn’t in your graphic. I use neon colors.

Using your fill tool, fill the background of your image with your weird color by right clicking somewhere in the empty space around your doll.

Go to layers->merge all visible

Now go to file->export->gif optimizer.

In the transparency tab, at the bottom of the box, you’ll see "areas that match this color" and a color box. Make that color match your weird background color by clicking first on the color box and then somewhere on your weird color in the image in the top right box of the optimizer window. Click ok. Give your new doll a filename and press save.

You did it! It wasn’t that hard was it? LOL.

Safety Tips

Tips on Staying Safe

Please take the time to read this. I know you are smart enough to know these pointers but there will be some where you will go and say ........."hmm I must remember that"

After reading, forward it to someone you care about, never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans: if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. ... DON'T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

a. Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.

b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

c. Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better safe than sorry.

Maybe it's just me..

Maybe it's just me..... but I just don't get this....
DENTISTS
(Just to make it clear this is probably just me & it is totally my opinion please bear with me.)

Dentists not only are they expensive, dang picky in their acceptance of insurance, and always full when you seem to need one or else on vacation but they seem to have a very devil may care attitude when it comes to mercury.
Mercury that funny fluid that used to be found in those glass thermometers that nurses, doctors, & parents insisted on shoving at or in you every time you sneezed. Mercury that funny fluid stuff that has a toxic hazard label with it. Mercury that everyone would caution you on how to clean up as it could cause problems when one of those thermometers broke.... Mercury that odd stuff that now they caution you to throw away any thermometers which have it & before you do that please check with the environmental people or your local haz mat agency (hazardous waste people) for the local regulations & rules. IF the above is what people are now saying about Mercury. IF we have to take special precautions with mercury as it can make you really sick & damage the environment. IF there is any hint of truth to it. Why then do dentists still use it & WHY do we allow them to subject our children to it? I am only asking this question because I have heard the dangers of mercury. I have been told that it is a hazard to the environment & people. I have been told by medical professionals to be careful what fish I feed my family do to its hazardous nature & how it can be found in fish. I have been advised by medical professionals to limit the amount of Tuna I feed my child (a favorite food) do to the risk of too much mercury being in the Tuna fish. I have heard pregnant women warned on the subject of mercury in fish & it's dangers to their health & the health of their unborn child. So why do we allow it to be put in the mouths of small children by dentists? Not to mention our own mouths. What's that you say? Putting mercury in the mouths of children? No way!!! you scream. That couldn't possibly be happening. Oh but my friends it is happening.. everyday to someone out there. You may even have some in your own mouth as we speak. How can that be? I would know it. Well, if you have ever been the victim of a cavity. If you have any silver fillings in your mouth then you probably have mercury in your mouth too. Mercury is in the amalgam (silver colored) fillings of both old & new. So now my story........
My child has special health needs & I have been advised not to ever get silver fillings that contain mercury in them as it could be detrimental to my child's health. I listened to my child's doctors about fish intake so why not this also.
I have been trying to find a dentist to fix a tooth that my child has a cavity in for the past 6 months. I have been judged an irresponsible parent as my child's 6 month old cavity has not yet been fixed. I have explained my dilemma about trying to find a dentist who would accept my dental insurance & not use amalgam (silver mercury containing) fillings.

I have been scoffed at. I have been told that I should lower my standards & accept amalgam fillings. That I should accept the fact that my insurance covers amalgam fillings & go with it. If my child develops problems from the fillings well that's a shame but that I haven't a right to expect better do to my insurance status. I have made them gasp when I said that my insurance would also cover non-amalgam fillings as well & insist that only they be used. Because of my apparent defiance I have been requested not to come back by the dentists.
I have also been told to prove it. And this is what I have found. The dentists that for the last 6 months have judged me as defiant & have refused treatment based on my insurance, & have informed me that I should accept their treatment with amalgam fillings because they have my child's best interest at heart... really don't.
I have spoken with the insurance company & was told that they do pay more for the amalgam fillings & encourage their use over the non-amalgam fillings. That they would gladly pay for the non-amalgam if I could prove that it was medically necessary. I have talked to the billing departments at the dentist offices. I have found out that the reason the dentists don't do non-amalgam fillings is that my insurance company will pay more for them. It all has to do with reimbursement costs. They get more $$$ with amalgam fillings than if they don't use them & do non-amalgam. When I went back with my information in hand. 3 out of the 15 admitted it. They said yes they get more $$$ for using amalgam fillings. When I asked if I paid for the fillings I wanted used with cash up front would they do them & they still said no way. I was shocked. I was floored that these 15 dentists all knew that mercury was in the fillings, that it might not be the safest type of filling to use, that mercury might leak out of the fillings into the body, & that in my child’s case they probably weren’t the best choice but because of the $$$ they weren't going to do any different.
I was also told by a medical professional that mercury leaches out of amalgam fillings every time you eat/drink, grind your teeth, etc. I couldn’t live with that for my child.
The moral to this story is stick to your guns. Don’t back down & ask questions. Get it in writing & be patient eventually you will get what you need. I am happy to say that I did find a dentist who fixed the cavity with out using amalgam fillings. He wasn’t really thrilled but he did honor my request. I also found a second dentist who not only agreed to use non-amalgam fillings on my other child & also advised me that amalgam fillings aren’t the best to use due to the mercury but because they have been used for so long people don’t see the hazards in them. Kind of like the car. It’s been around for a really long time & it didn’t have seatbelts to start with. Now seatbelts are standard equipment. Someday it could be like that with the non-amalgam fillings. Thank you for listening.

Earth & Mars

Earth and Mars
Never again in your (or my) lifetime will the Red Planet be so spectacular., Earth is catching up with Mars, an encounter that
will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history.  The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years.  The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification, Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.  Mars will be easy to spot.
At the beginning of August Mars will rise in the east at 10 p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m But by the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 a.m. That's pretty convenient when it comes to seeing something that no human has seen in recorded history.  So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month.
Share this!  No one alive today will ever see this again.

Attorney's Advice Please Read

Subject:  Some good info!
                ( An Attorney's Advice )

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:
** The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first
name) and last name put on them.
** If someone takes your check book they will not know if you sign your
checks
with just your initials or your first name but your bank will know how you
sign
your checks.
** When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT
put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the
last
four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number and
anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check
processing channels won't have access to it.
** Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you
have a PO Box use that instead of your home one Never have your SS#
printed on your checks (DUH!) you can add it if it is necessary. But if you
have it printed, anyone can get it.
** Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine, do both
sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your
wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.
** Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my
passport
when I travel either here or abroad.
** We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in
stealing
a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards, etc.

Unfortunately I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was
stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly
cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line
approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change
my driving
record information online, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this
happens to you or someone you know:

We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key
is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom
to call. Keep those where you can find them easily.
** File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where it was stolen,
this
proves to credit providers you were diligent, and is a first step toward an
investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important: (I never even thought to do
this).

Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place
a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of
doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for
credit was made over the Internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information
was stolen and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all
the damage had been done.

There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves'
purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then,
no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away
this weekend.(someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them in their
tracks.

** The numbers are:

** Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
** Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
** Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289

** Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about everything.

Pass this information along. It could really help someone you care about.

A sobbing little girl stood near a small church from which she had
been turned away because it "was too crowded." "I can't go to Sunday
School," she sobbed to the pastor as he walked by.
Seeing her shabby, unkempt appearance, the pastor guessed the reason
and, taking her by the hand, took her inside and found a place for
her in the Sunday school class. The child was so happy that they found
room for her, that she went to bed that night thinking of the children who
have no place to worship Jesus.
Some two years later, this child lay dead in one of the poor tenement
buildings and the parents called for the kindhearted pastor, who had
befriended their daughter, to handle the final arrangements.
As her poor little body was being moved, a worn and crumpled purse
was found,  which seemed to have been rummaged from some trash dump. Inside
was found 57 cents and a note scribbled in childish handwriting
which read, "This is to help build the little church bigger so more
children can go to Sunday School."  For two years she had saved for this
offering of love.
When the pastor tearfully read that note, he knew instantly what he would do. Carrying this note and the cracked, red pocketbook to the pulpit, he told the story of her unselfish love and devotion. He challenged his deacons to get busy and raise enough money for the larger building.
But the story does not end there!
A newspaper learned of the story and published it. It was read by a realtor who offered them a parcel of land worth many thousands. When told that the church could not pay so much, he offered it for 57 cents.
Church members made large donations. Checks came from far and wide. Within five years the little girl's gift had increased to
$250,000.00--a huge sum for that time (near the turn of the century). Her unselfish love had paid large dividend.
When you are in the city of Philadelphia, look up Temple Baptist
Church, with a seating capacity of 3,300   and Temple University, where
hundreds of students are trained.
Have a look, too, at the Good Samaritan Hospital and at a Sunday
School  building, which houses hundreds of Sunday Schoolers, so that no child
in the area will ever need to be left outside during Sunday school time.
In one of the rooms of this building may be seen the picture of the
sweet face of the little girl whose 57 cents, so sacrificially saved,
made such remarkable history. Alongside of it is a portrait of her
kind pastor, Dr. Russel H. Conwell, author of the book, "Acres of
Diamonds"                                                                                                                  A true story, which goes to show WHAT GOD, CAN DO WITH 57 cents.

Harry Potter

OK I know there are some out there thinking why or what more of the craze. Well, Just got through the first book Harry Potter & the Sorcerers Stone. It wasn't as bad as I was told it would be. In fact as we  listened to it on tape at the doctors office there turned out to be many good discussions come from it. Discussions about life that might not have happened otherwise. Just goes to show that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover or the gossip around it.

Reiki (What is it)

Reiki (pronounced ray key) is a generic word in Japan meaning Universal Life Energy & is described as spiritually guided life force energy.

The practice of REIKI is that of gently laying on the hands & transmitting this "Universal Life Energy" to assist the body in healing.

Because REIKI is guided by the God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs & will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them.

A person giving REIKI is called a practitioner. This is someone who has been attuned through ritual to activate the energy flow. A practitioner is not the source of energy, but only a channel or coduient for the energy.

Easter Basket ideas

What will your Easter Basket look like Easter morning .. colorful and cute or simple and stylish? Just follow the simple steps below to create your own beautiful baskets at home. Hop on over to Tupperware.com for more unique gifts and ideas that are sure to stand out from the crowd and make your Easter egg-ceptional!

Easter Basket Decorating Tips
째Add colorful stickers, fun shapes cut from colored construction paper and other small Easter decorations to the outside of your Easter Basket.
째Fill the inside of your
Easter Basket with colored Easter grass before adding chocolates, egg-shaped candies and toys. You can also make your own Easter grass with green construction paper cut into thin strips and crinkled into a ball.

To make a handle for your 2-cup Mini Bowl (included in the Side Salad Set shown in the picture above on the far left.)
째 Wrap an elastic strip about 2'L x "W around the widest part of the Mini Bowl until the ends meet fitting snugly around the bowl's outer rim. Then mark where the elastic strip met forming a circle with a marker.
째Remove elastic strip and staple it at the mark so that the strip forms a circle (do not cut the leftover elastic it is needed for the next step.)
째Take the circle you just made and flatten it out to find the exact opposite point on the circle from the staple. Mark the circle at the opposite point. Taking the leftover elastic, staple the end of the leftover elastic to the point on the circle that you just marked so that it forms a handle.
째Slide the first circle under the bowl until the circle fits snugly around the bowl's outer rim. Now you have a "mini" handle for your
Mini Bowl!

*Props are not included when purchasing the Easter Basket or the Side Salad Set.

Cookies

Almond Butter & Jam cookies

1/2 cup smooth almond butter (or other nut butter)
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup soy flour
1/4 cup brown rice flour
2 T water
1/3 cup naturally sweetened jam or jelly

Place the almond butter raisins & flour in a food processor. Mix with blending blade until the raisins are finely ground. Gradually add as much water as needed to make a dough that will hold together when you press it.

Shape the dough into about 14 walnut size balls & place them on an oiled cookie sheet. Make a well in the center of each ball of dough. If desired, shape the outer edges of the cookies with your fingers to get rid of cracks in the  douch & to give the cookies a more regular form. Drop about 1/2 teaspoon of jam into the indented center of the cookie.

Bake at 350 degrees F on the top rack of the oven for 12 minutes. Carefully remove the cookies with a spatula & cool on a cooling rack. They will become more firm as they cool.

Optional: you can use any combo of flour, not just soy & brown rice. Ex. quinoa, amaranth, garbanzo bean, etc. **Recipe adapted from the Cooking with the Right side of the Brain by Vicki Rae Chelf.

Baking Soda & Baking Powder

I went to a mini conference & a former health inspector spoke. She said many many things & I wish I could have gotten them all down. But this is one that I remembered.
When using Baking Soda and Baking Powder in cooking. Shake it first to activate it so that it works in the recipe like it is suppose. Otherwise it won't work as well .
I guess that is why my grandfather would drop & shake his. I never understood why except it was what he did when he had a bakery. Now it makes sense.

Be careful when buying....

milk substitutes for example: Rice milk. Check the ingredients carefully. Some may have barley or malt added in small percentages.

canned tuna fish. It is usually NOT gluten free. Even tuna packed in spring water contains vegetable broth that may contain gluten.

foods with hidden ingredients."natural flavor, "flavoring", "hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP)", "vegetable protein", "spices", "spice extract" "yeast extract". etc.

If the manufacture does not list specifically what the ingredient is there is a good chance theya re hiding something. For example, casein, gluten, MSG, glutamate (a component of MSG) colorings, & apartame can be added to an ingredient without having to have each additive listed as an ingredient on the label. Example a blueberry concentrate may contain several other ingredients in lesser amounts than the blueberry with a listing on the label as "natural flavoring"

Always read labels & verify with manufacture if ingredients are not clearly stated. If in doubt, do not purchase the product in question.

Butter Subs

Earth Balance Buttery Spread--This product is the best tasting butter alternative & is in a tub at the health food store. It does contain "Soy" There is a look a like brand in the grocery stores labeled "Smart Balance". Do Not buy Smart Balance as it contains casein.

Hain Safflower Oil Margarine--available only in health food stores.

Nucoa Margarine-- is available at grocery stores & it is very inexpensive however it contains hydrogenated oils along with some other ingredients that are not ideal.

Yogurt

There are several soy-based yogurt products that taste good. However, flavor enhancers in soy yogurt usuall labeled as "flavorings" may contain harmful ingredients that do not have to be disclosed by the manufacturer.

Wholesoy--is the best tasting soy yougurt but it does contain "hidden ingredients"

White Wave

Silk Soy Yogurt

Nancy's Soy Yogurt

This grain is considered to be gluten-free but may not be tolerated by some.
** This grain has one of the lowest amounts of gluten & may be “safe” for many. *** Buckwheat is often cross-contaminated by gluten-containing grains. Also, dark Buckwheat flower is ground Buckwheat with extra hulls added & is the most allergenic form. Standard Buckwheat flour is ground buckwheat with the hull but without additional hulls added. Light Buckwheat flour is considered to be most tolerable as the hull has been removed & the inside is ground. White Buckwheat is ground with the hull & is lighter in color. The exterior is light brown, not dark like the more commercially available Buckwheat. ****This grain is considered to be gluten-free but may not be tolerated by some
***** Vinegar is often a derivative of gluten containing grains--especially distilled vinegar
